HOW HALOM CAME TO BE

Founded on September 3, 2016, the Jewish Community Center "Halom" began its journey with an ambitious dream - to create a place where every Jewish family in Kyiv would find a second home.

WHAT WE DO

"Halom" is not just a name; it's our philosophy and calling. In Hebrew, "חלום" (Halom) means "dream," which also resembles the English word "dream" and carries a secondary meaning of "sleep." Over the years, our center has become a place where traditions are preserved, Jewish culture is developed, volunteerism and informal education thrive, and four generations come together under one roof. We take pride in the fact that "Halom" has helped many find like-minded individuals, broaden their horizons, and discover new opportunities for personal growth.

MISSION AND VALUES

At the beginning of 2024, our team analyzed our experiences and reevaluated our mission, vision, and values.

Our MISSION is to be a comfortable space for every Jewish family.

Our VISION is to become the leading Jewish center in Ukraine, where everyone feels part of a large family, regardless of age or background.

VALUES

  • Jewish Self-Identification - We preserve our heritage, traditions, and develop the Jewish community.
  • Humanity - We nurture human virtues, honor human dignity, and care for individuals.
  • Responsibility - We take responsibility, fulfill our commitments, and adhere to the law.
  • Diversity - We embrace diversity and ensure inclusion.
  • Time - We respect each other's time, use it effectively, and value the community's achievements.

ACHIEVEMENTS

"Halom" is open to everyone: children, youth, adults, and the elderly. We support families facing difficult life circumstances, internally displaced families (IDPs), and families with children with disabilities, offering them not only assistance and communication but also the opportunity to be an active part of our community.

  • Over 16,000 people have already participated in our offline and online events.
  • Our large community consists of 4,600 people.
  • Each year, we organize and implement over 350 projects.
  • Since its inception, "Halom" has provided more than 21,000 instances of assistance – ranging from material support to psychological and educational help.
  • 141 families are under the constant care of our family service, 56 of whom are internally displaced families (IDPs).
